(Reinforcement and punishment

A weekly presentation was given to the English Department faculty members by (Asst. lecturer. Hero Ali Omer) on Monday, April 7, 2025 at English Department.

The  presentation highlighted Behaviorism learning theory focusing on observable behaviors shaped by conditioning (reinforcement and punishment). Key figures like Pavlov and Skinner showed how environmental stimuli influence behavior.

In education, teachers use rewards (praise, privileges) to encourage desired behaviors, while students respond to these incentives. Assessments emphasize memorization and repetition, often limiting deeper thinking.

Though traditionally teacher-centered, behaviorism can fit student-centered learning through modeling, shaping skills step-by-step, and cues. However, it works best when combined with other theories like constructivism.
